Vomitoxin showing up in Eastern Corn Belt

A grain market analyst says there are some reports of vomitoxin in the corn as harvest continues in the Eastern Corn Belt.

Sam Hudson with Corn Belt Marketing is based in Illinois and tells Brownfield the vomitoxin reports have been prevalent in the Ohio River Valley.

“We are hearing how that might create some displacement for feed, depending on what those levels look like. In our area, they stepped up the screening for it a little bit more than normal, but I don’t think we’re going to deal with it as heavily.”

Hudson says vomitoxin might become an even bigger issue in the Eastern Corn Belt as harvest drags on following rain and snow delays.
