Virginia in midst of drought

While many areas of the country have received excess rain this summer, the state of Virginia has been suffering from very dry conditions.

The Virginia Farm Bureau reports that high heat and parched conditions are taking a toll on animals and pastures.  Some cattlemen are selling off livestock because of the lack of pasture, hay and water.  According to the Ag Statistics Service in Virginia, 90 percent of the state reported topsoil moisture levels as very short or short.  Officials say the state needs a solid drenching to salvage the growing season.
