USDA takes comments on removing “USA” from foreign grass-fed beef

The USDA is taking comments on a proposal to remove “Product of the USA” from labels of foreign grass-fed beef products if the products have gone through USDA-inspected plants.

The American Grassfed Association and the Organization for Competitive Markets field a petition with the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) last week, arguing that multi-national producers are cutting into domestic beef producers’ profits.

  • As an American and consumer I definitely want to know where the beef is from that I am purchasing and consuming. Please do not remove the label “Product of the USA” It is of the most importance. If it is placed on foreign made products it certainly needs to be placed on beef products that are consumable.
