USDA: Minnesota needs more precipitation

The USDA says warmer temperatures for most of March were welcome in Minnesota, but soil moisture conditions will need to improve ahead of widespread planting.

The warmer temperatures did improve livestock conditions, with no losses reported, but muddy feedlots were an issue in some areas.

Grain movement was called widespread and small grain planting in sandy soils and potato planting could both start soon.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume Monday.
