USDA authorized to provide another round of trade aid

The USDA will provide another round of payments to producers harmed by the trade dispute with China.

Ag Secretary Perdue told reporters Thursday afternoon the Department has received authorization for a second tranche through the Market Facilitation Program.

“We’ll be getting it ready hopefully the end of this month or early December.”

Speaking to Brownfield while in Minneapolis for the Minnesota AgriGrowth Food and Ag Summit, Undersecretary Bill Northey says the USDA could issue one more MFP2 payment early in 2020.

“And we’ll evaluate what the situation is at that time. Hopefully we’ll have a signed agreement with China at that time, and then we’ll see. Whether that’s delayed for those purchases or whether some of those purchases are starting to happen.”

USDA began the first round of MFP2 payments in August and signup continues through the sixth of December.
