U.S. makes trade progress with Philippines, working on Ukraine & Argentina

U.S. trade negotiators have announced progress in bilateral trade talks with the Philippines, and are discussing expanded trade with Argentina and Ukraine.

The National Pork Producers welcome the progress with the Philippines, saying it is a priority market for U.S. pork producers.  NPPC says the U.S. shipped nearly 100-million dollars’ worth of pork to the island nation last year, and sales would grow significantly without tariff and non-tariff trade barriers.

Part of the new Trade and Investment Framework Agreement will have the U.S. and the Philippines collaborating on cold chain requirements and best practices for food hygiene.  The agreement also deals with geographical indications, electronic payments, and elimination of reference pricing.

On Tuesday, The U.S. Trade Representative’s office co-hosted the eighth meeting of the United States-Ukraine Trade and Investment Council to discuss bilateral trade improvements, and last Friday, a similar meeting was held with Argentina trade officials.
