U.S. corn condition improves, soybeans steady

U.S crop condition ratings improved slightly for corn and remained steady for soybeans last week.

The USDA says 58 percent of corn is rated good to excellent, one percent higher than a week ago, but nine percent below a year ago.

Soybeans in the good to excellent category stayed at 55 percent, which is 11 percent lower than this time last year.

Crop development continues to trail the usual pace.

Corn in the dent stage is at 41 percent as of Sunday, compared to the five-year average of 63 percent.

Soybeans setting pods reached 86 percent, 10 percent slower than normal.

And the spring wheat harvest is 55 percent complete, with 67 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
