U.S.-China trade talks going well

The U.S. trade delegation stayed in China later than planned, and Ag Undersecretary Ted McKinney says he’s optimistic.  McKinney told reporters talks went fine, and that “It’s been a good one for us” but didn’t go into details.

No major breakthroughs in the trade war were announced, but the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office issued a statement saying they discussed necessary structural changes in China with respect to forced technology transfer, intellectual property protection, non-tariff barriers, cyber intrusions and cyber theft of trade secrets for commercial purposes, services, and agriculture.

It says they also focused on China’s pledge to purchase a substantial amount of U.S. agricultural, energy, and manufactured goods from the U.S.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry says both sides are “serious” about reaching agreement.  Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Jeffrey Gerrish says they will report back for guidance on the next step of negotiations.
