Turkey hatchery numbers down in November

Turkey egg placements, poult hatching, and poult placements all declined in November.

That’s in line with the USDA’s recent downward revision to 2023 and 2024 turkey production projections.

The USDA says there were 25.556 million turkey eggs in incubation on December 1st, slightly above the November 1st total, but down 4% from December 1st, 2022.

Poults hatched during November were 21.549 million head, a decrease of 5% on both the month and the year.

19.679 million poults were placed into meat production, also 5% lower than the previous month and 5% under last year.

The USDA’s next set of turkey production estimates is out January 12th.
