Trump says Farmers to Families Food Boxes to get $1B more

President Trump, in North Carolina on Monday, said the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box program has been very successful and the administration will provide another $1 billion to fund it. Brownfield has reached out to USDA to confirm that.

Meanwhile, Under Secretary Greg Ibach told Brownfield last Friday, USDA has been able to include more local growers in the coronavirus food box program, “The program has worked the way it was intended to, to try to provide opportunities for local production to be included and we’re seeing that happen now.”

Ibach says there were a lot of fears in the beginning that the food box program gave contracts to those not capable of rolling it out properly but that hasn’t been the case, “The contractors delivered over 90% of their contractual amount. They only got paid when they delivered a box successfully.”

Brownfield interviewed Ibach at the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri in Columbia, Missouri last week.
