Trump might extend China deadline if a trade deal is close

President Trump says he might let the March 1st deadline to reach a trade deal with China “slide for a little while” but said he’s “not inclined to do that.”

Trump told reporters Tuesday that if the two sides are close to a new trade deal, he might postpone raising tariffs on Chinese goods from 10% to 25%.

U.S. and Chinese negotiators are meeting in Beijing this week. Trump says both sides are anxious to make a deal, but also says the tariffs are bringing a tremendous amount of money into the U.S. Treasury.

Presidents Xi and Trump are planning to meet in March, but the dates and location have not been set.
