Time to evaluate plant health

A technical service rep with BASF says now is a good time to evaluate crops.

Katie Strathmann suggests farmers should expect some variability.

“Think about what went wrong, what could’ve gone differently, and think about what is plant health for next season. Because plant health is not just if the plant is growing, right. At BASF, plant health is something that happens at the cellular level.”

Speaking to Brownfield at the Farm Progress Show near Boone, Iowa, she says plant health in corn typically coincides with standability.

“This hasn’t been a big year for foliar disease, but it is something you can look for. See what diseases you have (and) think about which ones might overwinter and residue in your fields, things that might pop up next year if you’re not going to rotate to a different crop.”

Strathmann says this is also a good time to evaluate plant health products.
