Tennessee crops: corn 74%, soybeans 72% good to excellent

Rain is needed across the state as crops are beginning to show signs of stress in early development stages. 

Corn is rated 74% good to excellent with 98% planted and 95% emerged.  Soybeans are rated 72% good to excellent with 76% planted and 62% of the crop emerged.  Cotton is rated 66% good to excellent and 96% of the crop is planted with 4% squaring.  Thrip populations are high and becoming a concern for cotton growers.

Winter wheat is rated 72% good to excellent with 95% of the crop coloring, 51% mature, and 3% harvested.  Pastures are rated 62% good to excellent and the first cutting was 59% complete.

Topsoil moisture is 60% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture is 70% adequate to surplus.
