Taranis raises $40 million to advance crop intelligence development, carbon markets

One of the world’s largest crop intelligence providers has raised $40 million to develop new technologies that will verify and validate carbon markets.

Mike DiPaola, Chief Commercial Officer with Taranis, says the funds will advance remote data sensing. “Capturing revenue with the retailer for the grower for an agri-carbon market or a regenerative market or some kind of initiative,” he says. “I think there will be more participation for the retailer and the grower and the say how the technology will shape those trends.”

He tells Brownfield improvements in crop intelligence will allow farmers to become more efficient and reduce skyrocketing input costs. “All of the fundamentals in the industry show a growing agricultural market and a need for more food, more protein and better food,” DiPaola says. “Also, more transparency in what we’re managing, managing better, getting more from less not only from an environmental standpoint, but from a good economical standpoint as well.”

Taranis’ crop intelligence platform leverages leaf-level imagery and an AI intelligence system that is supported by over 200 million data points to provide insights into crop management.
