Sysco sues ‘Big Four’ packers

A major food distributor is accusing the nation’s largest meat processors of fixing beef prices.

Sysco has filed a lawsuit alleging Tyson Foods, JBS, Cargill, and National Beef conspired to inflate beef prices since at least 2015. The lawsuit claims the packers allegedly suppressed the number of slaughtered cattle.

Similar lawsuits have been filed since 2020, but are pending in federal court.

The Department of Justice has been formally investigating antitrust violations among the four packers for over two years. Updates from that investigation have not been made available.
