Switching to biodiesel on the farm

An eastern Iowa farmer says he’s hopeful the usage of biodiesel increases on farming operations.

Dave Walton is a board member for the American Soybean Association and Clean Fuels Alliance America. “There’s still a slow adoption rate at the farm level, but we are seeing more and more folks getting back into asking their suppliers for biodiesel.”

He tells Brownfield there have been some supply issues at the farm level, but, “You’ve got to ask. Biodiesel is available everywhere. Most of the time they can get it right at the terminal. So, it’s there. You just have to ask your retailer for it.”

Walton says biodiesel is a cleaner option to petroleum-based diesel and helps reduce emissions.

He raises soybeans, corn, alfalfa, and mixed hay and pastures in Wilton, Iowa.
