A U.S. sugar industry leader says they are looking forward to working with the new Administration.

Phillip Hayes with the American Sugar Alliance tells Brownfield he believes Trump recognizes and will address global trade distortions.

“There is rampant subsidization, currency manipulation, and we for a long time in the sugar industry have been dealing with this.” He says, “Sugar is the most distorted commodity market in the world.”

Hayes says while sugar production has been really good this year, the prices have not. He says the depressed prices are mainly due to Mexico dumping subsidized sugar into the market which is why a strong farm policy is so important in the next farm bill.
