Study shows savings when using E15

A recent study shows consumers saved an average of 27 cents per gallon when using E15 ethanol blends in their vehicles.

The study uses data from the Renewable Fuels Association collected from more than 15 hundred customers who reported E10 and E15 prices to a website, E15prices.com.

The Renewable Fuels Association report says 52% of the price reports came from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and South Dakota, where 44% of the E15 retailers are located. Many of the retailers in these states priced E15 from 11 to 17 cents per gallon lower than regular E10 gas.  The smallest average discounts were in Indiana, Missouri, and Nebraska.  The largest discounts were from 61 to 88 cents per gallon in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and North Carolina.

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service says about 45% of U.S. corn production now goes towards ethanol production.
