Spring activity picking up on southeast Minnesota farm

Activity is picking up on Brennen Toquam’s farm in southeastern Minnesota.

“We’ve disked down some tile lines, you know that kind of stuff. We also got some of our bean pre-chemical on Monday afternoon, then the wind kicked up so we’ve quit for now.”

Toquam grows corn and soybeans near Blooming Prairie and says soils are surprisingly dry.

“I was out late last week and there was dust flying, so yeah it is dry on top. I still think it’s plenty wet yet underneath, but it seems like we’ve had a lot more sun and a lot more wind.”

He tells Brownfield the corn planter won’t get rolling until the insurance date of April 12th, except for maybe a pass or two this week to make sure the equipment is working correctly.
