Soybean exports decline 22% in Q1

The USDA says soybean exports for the first quarter of the fiscal year have declined more than 20 percent.

USDA trade analyst Bryce Cooke says the decline in soybean exports is directly related to a huge Brazilian crop entering the market rather than any type of retaliatory measures against the U.S.  “This data that we’re talking about only goes through the end of January which was really before there was even talks of these steel or aluminum tariffs, so that wouldn’t even be reflected.”

He says total U.S. exports decreased six percent to $50.7 billion from October through January 2018 compared to the same period last year.
