Soy harvest looking good in western Iowa

Soybean harvest is underway for western Iowa farmer Kevin Ross, and he says yields are better than expected.

“We’re seeing yields right around here in the 50s to low 60s,” he said. “Pretty good for the year we’ve had for sure. I’ll take it.”

He tells Brownfield a few farmers in his area have started corn harvest. “Along the Missouri River bottom where they were a little drier,” Ross said. “There are some early numbers – 105-to-108-day stuff that got planted early – that’s coming out for corn, but otherwise it’s pretty slow on the corn harvest. A lot of things are still green yet.”

Ross farms near Minden in north-central Pottawattamie County.
