Southwest Iowa farmer pleased with recent moisture

The soil moisture outlook is improving for a farmer in southwest Iowa.

Ralph Lents of Greenfield says it had been very dry going into March.

“But in our part of the state we’re starting to pick up some rain, some snow. Our tile lines are starting to run, so it looks better.”

The corn and soybean grower says now it just needs to warm up.

“This thing is ready to go and there’s a lot of fertilizer put on. And I think that once the soil conditions and temperatures get cleared up, I think you’re going to see a lot of things rolling.”

Lents is a district director for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

The U.S. Drought Monitor shows most of southwest Iowa no longer in drought, but several counties remain abnormally dry.
