Southeast Minnesota farmer sees limited pest pressure

A soybean farmer in southeastern Minnesota has seen limited late season pest pressure.

Ryan Buck of Goodhue tells Brownfield he’s noticed white mold in low spots and heard reports of Sudden Death Syndrome in his area.

“I mean, we did spray for aphids when we did fungicide on the beans, and there were some (aphids) there. But we figured we were going in and we’d just take care of it while we were there in case they flared up later on.”

He says the growing season started dry, but recent rains are improving his outlook.

“It just looks like crops across the state vary quite a bit, so it’ll be interesting to see what the actual numbers as far as yields do come in at when harvest starts here.”

Buck anticipates the soybean harvest to begin around the end of September in the southeast corner of the state.
