South Dakota corn planting 8% complete

Corn planting has advanced to eight percent complete in South Dakota.

The USDA says with nearly six days suitable for fieldwork across the state last week, the pace is slightly ahead of normal.

Spring wheat planting is 36 percent done, well ahead of last year but still 15 points behind the five-year average.

Oat planting, at 42 percent, is also in front of a year ago but behind the average of 49 percent.

Seventy-two percent of the winter wheat crop is rated good to excellent, a slight improvement over the week before.
