Some corn and soybeans settled in Illinois fields

The USDA reports both corn and soybeans have been planted in Illinois fields after a window of opportunity for fieldwork in some parts of the state last week.

As of Sunday, 2% of the state’s soybean crop had been planted. Corn planting reached 8%, three percentage points behind the five-year average.

Winter wheat reached 2% headed with this year’s crops rated 68% good to excellent the past week.

The average temperature statewide was 13 degrees below normal with comparable precipitation to previous years.
