Soil moisture has improved in South Dakota

Spring fieldwork is not widespread in South Dakota yet due to the cold, snowy conditions.

USDA’s first state crop progress report of the year says less than one day was suitable for fieldwork in the last week. Soil condition ratings have improved with topsoil supplies rated 80% adequate to surplus with subsoil moisture rated 63% adequate to surplus.

Winter wheat conditions are rated 23% good to excellent.
