Snow not helping Michigan’s spring

A mid-Michigan farmer says snow this week is just another hurdle to the season’s cold and wet start.

Sarah Zastrow tells Brownfield ground temperatures are still cold and not even sugarbeets in the region have been planted yet.

“I went for a walk yesterday with the dog in a field and I was proud that my tennis shoes didn’t get too muddy, but it was cold,” she shares.

Zastrow says there were hopes for fieldwork by the week’s end, but the snow has pushed that back again.

Zastrow raises corn, soybeans, and vegetables with her family in Merrill.
