Snow cover helps protect Wisconsin winter wheat

The USDA says temperatures were below normal during February in Wisconsin.

That made livestock chore more difficult, but snow cover helped insulate the alfalfa and winter wheat crops.

The big features for February were cattle feeding and manure hauling with the USDA reporting many were looking forward to a warmer pattern at the end of the month.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
