Slaughter happy anti-antibiotic bill introduced in Senate

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter is praising a bipartisan group of senators for introducing a companion bill to her measure aimed at reducing antibiotic use in food animals.

Slaughter has been trying to get her legislation (PAMTA – The Preservation of Antibiotics for Medical Treatment Act) passed for four years. She says the measure is designed to “stop the overuse of antibiotics on the farm” which she claims is “accelerating the growth of antibiotic-resistant disease.”

Senate sponsors of the measure include Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer of California, Susan Collins of Maine, and, Kirstin Gillibrand of New York.
