Shaw outlines challenges for ethanol in ‘23

The head of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the ethanol industry faces some roadblocks in 2023.

Monte Shaw tells Brownfield, “We have some challenges on the left who want to apparently not help biofuels because they want to have the only answer be EVs (electric vehicles),” Shaw said. “We don’t have anything against EVs. We just don’t think they are the only answer. And we have some challenges on the right where you have people who still want to hold higher blends like E15 back because they want to protect fossil fuels.”

He says year-round E15 should have already been a done deal. “The White House is dragging its feet,” Shaw said. “We still have people who say they want to reduce carbon, but who don’t want to help us do what we need to do to have biofuels reduce their carbon emissions.”

But Shaw says global demand is rising for US ethanol products.
