Share a gift of milk for #NationalDairyMonth

The dairy checkoff and Feeding America are partnering this June to secure milk and dairy food donations as part of National Dairy Month.

Serena Schaffner with Dairy Management Inc. tells Brownfield several efforts are underway to support The Great American Milk Drive for the fifth year.

“The dairy community has been able to donate about 31 million servings to kids and families.  Because it’s so nutritious, it’s one of the most requested items at food banks.”

Donations made through USDA’s trade mitigation program and The Emergency Food Assistance program last year contributed to nearly 690 million servings of dairy products.

“Infrastructure is so important when you talk about a perishable product and helping to get refrigerators into those smaller food pantries—helping with the delivery logistics, trucks, and transportation—is also something that the dairy community has been helping out with.”

A three-vehicle convoy will travel cross-country during June and July to provide kids with milk and dairy foods as part of the promotions.

Consumers can make donations at giveagallon.com which is then distributed to their local communities.

Schaffner also encourages farmers to get online to reach out to consumers using #NationalDairyMonth and #UndeniablyDairy.
