Senators ask seek full FY’19 funds for Mississippi River fixes

Ten U.S. Senators are asking the Trump administration to propose more funding for repairs of the Mississippi River lock and dam system.

The bipartisan group includes Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin of Illinois, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin.

They want the White House to propose new fiscal year 2019 funding for the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP), which is part of the WRDA *(the Water Resources Development Act) bill passed in 2007.

Their letter to White House Office and Management and Budget director Mick Mulvaney says the aging, crumbling Mississippi River infrastructure threatens a crucial transportation system for U.S. grain and oilseed exports.
