Senate passes mandatory price reporting

The U.S. Senate has passed mandatory price reporting. The bill reauthorizes USDA reporting for five years of daily price and volume information on purchases of cattle and boxed beef sales as well as export and import data.

In addition, the legislation calls for Mandatory Reporting of Wholesale Pork (MRWP) cuts and instructs the Secretary of Agriculture to establish within one year an electronic price reporting system for dairy products.

The House Agriculture Committee passed the companion bill on July 28, that legislation now awaits action by the full House when they return from their August recess.

The legislation has the support of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National Pork Producers Council, National Milk Producers Federation, International Dairy Foods Association, American Sheep Industry, American Farm Bureau and others.
