Senate confirms Northey

Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm Production and Conservation at the USDA. Northey issued a statement saying while the process has taken longer than expected he’s “excited as ever to work with Secretary Perdue” and the USDA staff in support of the nation’s farmers and ranchers.

Northey thanked President Trump for nominating him, Secretary Perdue and Iowa U.S. Senators Grassley and Ernst for their strong support along the way. Northey made no mention of the months-long hold on his nomination by Texas Senator Ted Cruz. He thanked the “entire” Senate Ag Committee for their bipartisan support of his nomination.
