SE Minnesota farmer expects normal planting season

A southeast Minnesota farmer anticipates a normal planting season this spring.

Ben Storm of Dover grows corn and soybeans and says fieldwork has begun in his part of the state.

“There was some chisel plowing going on in my neighborhood the last couple days, which kind of surprised me. They were out there doing some ripping that didn’t get done in the fall about five to six miles west of me.”

He tells Brownfield the forecast calls for warmer temperatures and some rainfall.

“Hopefully by the end of the month we’re either preparing to put seed in the ground or putting seeds in the ground.”

Storm says they typically start planting corn in late April, and he plans on keeping their rotation close to 50/50.
