Roundup settlement rejected by Bayer

Bayer says it will move forward in its defense of lawsuits that claim Roundup causes cancer.

The company rejected a settlement that would have ended thousands of liability cases in a California federal court last week. In a statement to Brownfield, Bayer said the current multidistrict litigation process has resulted in the resolution or dismissal of more than 80% of the pending cases. The company says it opposes the closure of the process, as proposed by the plaintiffs.

Bayer recently told Brownfield there is more than 40 years of overwhelming evidence and scientific studies that show Roundup is safe and isn’t carcinogenic. The company won its fifth consecutive Roundup trial last Thursday in St. Louis, Missouri.
