RFA praises Senate introduction of Next Gen Fuels Act

A supporter of the Next Generation Fuels Act says the legislation would help lower fuel prices for consumers.

Troy Bredenkamp, senior vice president of government and public affairs with the Renewable Fuels Association, says the Senate version of the bill focuses on high-octane requirements that utilize higher ethanol blends.

“Conventional wisdom would tell you if we could increase the blend rate of ethanol into conventional fuels moving forward, then we most expectedly should see a price decrease at the retail level,” he said.

He tells Brownfield other provisions would enable more efficient engines. “It would put some caps on aromatics, which are cancer causing and we know that’s a problem for the environment.”

The legislation was introduced in the US Senate on Tuesday. A House version of the bill was introduced last August.
