RFA continues push for year-round E15

Ethanol groups continue to call on the Environmental Protection Agency to allow year-round sales of E15.

Scott Richman is the chief economist for the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA).

“It’s really an obsolete and antiquated set of restrictions on E15 that were placed a number of years back,” he said.

Attorneys General from seven Midwestern states recently sent a letter to the EPA expressing frustration that the agency is hundreds of days past the 90-day deadline to publish E15 regulations.

Richman tells Brownfield E15 production has steadily increased over the last few years. “Those volumes help save consumers money,” he said. “They help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and they also help with rural economies.”

RFA says if the EPA doesn’t approve the request, then ethanol supporters would need to ask the administration for an emergency waiver.
