Raising Innovation Grant awareness in Minnesota

The new president of the Minnesota Corn Growers wants members to have a greater awareness of opportunities through the Association’s Innovation Grant program.

Kirby Hettver of De Graff says Checkoff dollars are available to farmers who want to explore innovative ideas.

“Better ways to apply nutrients (and other) ways we can manage better.  So I think growth in the Innovation Grant program is going to be instrumental in helping us identify real things we can implement on farms that are going to make a difference.”

Because the program is still new, he tells Brownfield more Innovation Grant outreach is needed.

“This summer when the new Request for Proposal came out at Farmfest, I had another segment of growers (that I knew) who asked about the Innovation Grants.  So awareness is rising, and we’re certainly getting plenty of applications.”

Minnesota farmers interested in applying for 2018 Innovation Grants have until December 15th to submit a proposal.
