PSF- scraper schedule filed in court

Premium Standard Farms in north Missouri has filed its proposed schedule for addressing hog barn odor abatement with the court in hopes of satisfying the last phase of its consent decree with the state of Missouri which runs out July 31st. PSF is asking the Jackson County court to approve the schedule.

PSF president Bill Homann says they have a two-year schedule to implement the state-of-the-art barn scraper technology at all their farms in the next two years.

“We feel like this is an aggressive implementation schedule,” said Homann. “We are eagerly looking forward to the court approving this schedule and allowing us to close this part of our consent decree.”

Homann says PSF continues to work with the State Attorney General’s office on odor abatement but says it’s been not only challenging but costly.

“Missouri is a tough state to do business in,” said Homann. “It has very strict environmental standards and the nuisance litigation that we have experience in this state has been a significant challenge as well.”

Homann says PSF has ordered the materials for the barn scrapers. That technology was approved in late April by the expert panel assigned to the case.

Premium Standard Farms is an independently operated company of Smithfield Foods.
