Planting underway for Ohio farmer

West Central Ohio Farmer Patty Mann says planting is finally underway on her farm.

“We’re really anxious to get some planting done and just Saturday we got a small field in,” she says. “We have quite a bit of groundwork now ready for corn and soybeans, so I think we’re going to start planting both of those today.”

She says they would typically like to start planting at the end of April, but cooler temperatures slowed progress.

“Soil temperatures were so cold that we weren’t sure we wanted to get any seed in the ground yet- soil temps were only in the 40s,” she says.

Mann, president of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association, grows corn and soybeans in Shelby County.
