Planting conditions good in northwest Missouri

A northwest Missouri farmer says after going through what was supposed to be a dry winter, he’s ready for planting.

“Moisture is not overly abundant, but we have good planting conditions now.”

Richard Oswald tells Brownfield a mix of scattered rain and snow over the last several weeks prevented the expected La Nina pattern from creating drought conditions in his area.

“Dry weather and the dry winter that we anticipated didn’t happen here [not] for us anyhow.”

The Atchison County farmer says Monday marked the first day crop insurance covered his planting, but some farmers got an earlier start.
