Perdue: Trump is working on a mitigation effort to offset RFS waivers

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says President Trump will soon announce a mitigation effort to offset small refinery exemption waivers.

Farmers and several ag groups have expressed concern about the administration’s RFS waivers.

Secretary Perdue says President Trump plans to announce a plan that will benefit the industry, but no details have been released yet.

“I think (something will be announced) hopefully in the next couple of weeks, they’re trying to work on the president’s schedule,” he says. “I think he’d like to come out here and face the community and deliver the news himself.”

Perdue says the administration is working to build ethanol demand, especially with year-round sales of E15.

“Going from E10 to E15 is very important— that’s like 50 percent,” he says. “We can’t expect that kind of growth in corn export demand—2 billion bushels over that period of time. Will it be a process? Yes, and we need to build that process out as quickly as possible.”

Perdue spoke to media at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois, today.
