Pelosi says climate bill “very close” to passing

House Leader Nancy Pelosi told a group of union members and environmentalists today that the Senate is “very close” to passing a comprehensive energy and climate change bill, according to The Hill dot com. Pelosi spoke at a Green Jobs conference in Washington DC sponsored by the United Steelworks, the Sierra Club, Alcoa and other companies. Pelosi also said she’s proud of South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham – the sole Republican sponsor of the energy/climate bill – who insisted last month that Senate Leader Harry Reid keep that bill first on the agenda over immigration reform.

The U.S. House passed a broad climate and energy bill last year but the Senate has not acted.

In light of the recent oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, The Hill says concerns over drilling could further hamper efforts for a bipartisan coalition that’s needed to pass the Senate bill with at least 60 votes. The bill, sponsored by Graham and Senators Kerry and Lieberman, includes measures to promote more offshore drilling.

  • This bill also includes a study to find out why the days have been getting longer and longer ever since last December. They believe these longer days are a direct result of global warming. But, if they will purchase some day shortening credits from me (about 900 million dollars worth should do it) – I will promise them the days will start getting shorter again in late June…
