Optimistic for high yield potential

Starting off behind the eight-ball when it comes to planting will make almost any farmer nervous.  Vanderburgh County, Indiana (Southwest Indiana) farmer Randy Kron says this spring’s weather has him nervous about potential yield loss to the corn crop.

“I didn’t’ see any frost in our area – which is a good sign,” he says.  “I think we got down to 40, maybe 39 degrees the one night.  It definitely slows down the growth of the corn plant.  But how it’s going to affect the yields – I don’t know yet.  You can’t be a farmer without being optimistic.  So I’m hopeful it hasn’t hurt us too bad and we can still have a pretty good crop.”

Kron says it’ll be at least the end of the week before they’re able to get back in the field.
