Ohio sees warm, mostly dry December

Warm temperatures and below average rainfall dominated Ohio in December.

The USDA says the average temperature statewide was for the month was the third highest on record while precipitation was almost a half an inch below usual, but with some late month rain, which has improved soil moisture levels.

Livestock producers report muddy conditions and deteriorated pastures because of that late month rain.

71% of Ohio’s winter wheat crop is in good to excellent condition, compared to 49% a year ago.

Some producers are still harvesting 2023 corn.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports resume in April.
