Nunn says farm bill work needs to happen soon

A U.S. Representative from Iowa says lawmakers cannot delay work on the next farm bill.

Republican Zach Nunn tells Brownfield 2024 is a presidential election year and the farm bill needs to get done sooner rather than later. “The earlier we put it in the calendar the better for farmers, the better for members of Congress, and most importantly the betterment of every American who is depending on this.”

He says his priorities remain the same. “Expansion of rural broadband, tax credits for new farmers, innovation in ag, conservation practices, these are all things that have to get passed prior to August.”

Nunn says the next farm bill will be monumental to the future of agriculture. “That means taking care of the commitments we’ve made to farmers but providing a good on-ramp for new farmers to come into this.”

He says Congress has an obligation to provide farmers and ranchers some long-term certainty.
