November dairy exports down on the year despite record cheese movement

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says a record month of cheese exports was not enough to offset declines in nearly all other dairy categories during November.

Total values decreased 21 percent from 2022 to more than $630 million and volumes were down more than eight percent.

Exports of cheese were up four percent with shipments to Mexico increasing by 42 percent on the month largely because of shredded cheese demand at food service.  High-protein whey exports increased 37 percent for the month because of increased global demand.

Nonfat dry milk/ skim milk powder (-5%), low protein whey (-14%), and lactose (-7%), were all lower for the month.
