New data cooperative to streamline information, add value for producers

A data cooperative is bringing together stakeholders to help farmers and ranchers better understand, implement and value data gathered on operations.

Jennifer Clarke, the Cooperative’s lead and professor with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, says producers have been inundated with technology and data. “We need a framework in which to provide producers with value from their data.”

She tells Brownfield the cooperative will help producers gather the data and reproduce it in a way that improves agronomic decision making.

“And that affects their bottom line. That means they can be more sustainable. They can take advantage of upcoming carbon markets, they can financially benefit from the insights that we can get from the data that they’re providing.”

Clarke says the data will always be owned by the producer and it will be properly secured from cyber or ransomware attacks.

The I-augural National Ag Producer Data Cooperative Conference was in Lincoln, NE on Thursday.
