Nebraska winter wheat crop withers as warmer weather could damage what’s left

Southwest Nebraska farmer Jan TenBensel says he’s losing hope for his winter wheat crop unless there’s significant rain on the way.

“The winter wheat crop is really struggling.  We need some rain out here just to keep his winter wheat crop alive.”

He tells Brownfield the crop was in rough shape heading into dormancy due to a severe lack of moisture. “I had a couple of fields that didn’t receive any moisture all winter.  They are looking pretty sad right now.  When it starts getting warm, it’s going to deteriorate pretty quickly unless we can get some rain.”

But, TanBensel says, he needs warmer weather to get his corn and soybeans off to a good start.
